Journal Entry: July 10, 2009

Journal Entry: Weight = 174.4; Coinage = $.40, 30 pennies, 1 dime; Glass bottles = 3; Ground Score = 1; Best Coinage find = five pennies in a car wash bay, fifteen from the entire compound. The MoneyWalker enjoys finding pennies, but a walk is more complete when a few quarters and dimes are added to the mix. As the photo suggest, MoneyWalkers are off soon on a European get-away. Watch your calories and continue the walks

Friendship House: The MoneyWalker's Charity

All money found by the MoneyWalker is donated to the Friendship House of New Orleans. This Baptist sponsored charity ministers to homeless women and their children. Programs include Education, Health Education, Transitional Housing, Job Readiness, and Emergency Aid all provided in a context that fosters Spiritual Growth. In addition to the coins, the MoneyWalker Annual Yard Sale donates all revenue to the Friendship House. In 2009, more than $600 was donated. In 2010 our goal of $1,000 is well ahead of schedule.

The Goal of the MoneyWalker

The goal of MoneyWalker is to provide assistance to individuals who want to improve their physical fitness using the unique technique of Money Walking. As for intrinsic motivation, positive habits are difficult to establish. At first, the novelty of walking is sufficient. But after awhile, boredom occurs. Money Walking substitutes finding money as the primary reinforcement mechanism.

The rules are simple. Walk one hour five days a week. Wear a reflection vest. Training shoes with a good platform is recommended. As you walk, learn to scan and focus. Remember safety, remain vigilant for cars.

The amount of money people lose is amazing. My strategy is to walk street curbs on my way to “money spots.” These include slots in telephones and newspaper dispensers; coins at fast food chains and parking lots; and car-wash vacuum stations.

The "addiction" comes from the finds, later from the weight loss. For now, the time is to get started, your body will thank you.
